Due to user-centric and digitally-driven innovations like virtual bank cards or interest-free buy-now pay-later options, the fintech market is projected to reach $324 billion by 2026. Contributing to this predicted meteoric growth, digital lending has reached a record $21 billion in funding in 2021, up 220% from 2020 - the biggest jump among all fintech categories.

Effectively enabling ecommerce and digital marketing entrepreneurs to grow their businesses like never before is at the heart of Juni’s mission. While many players in fintech and banking are catering their credit offer to the largest number of businesses and don’t account for growth, we are proud to have officially launched a game-changing cashback card for customers in the UK market: the Juni card. In celebration of this milestone, we interviewed the man who knows Juni credit best, Christian Sobkowski, talking to him about his vision, revolutionising credit and what’s next for Juni.

Hey Chris! Please introduce yourself.

Hi everyone - My name is Christian and I’m Juni’s Credit Director based in Stockholm, Sweden. Originally from Switzerland, I found a home at Juni; a company that’s as international as I’d like to be.

What Juni value really speaks to you?

Intensity. I love speed - whether that’s going fast in a marathon or hyper-scaling a business. Juni opened up the opportunity to quickly build great products for customers who want to quickly build theirs.

If Juni had a superpower, what would it be?

Supernatural hearing. You know how superheroes often hear that someone is in trouble from miles away? When I’m looking at our Slack channels, I can see daily soundbites about customers, the market and new technologies collected by now over 120 Juni Companions. Inspiration that I hope we can convey in our products.

Why don’t you tell us a bit about your vision for Juni credit?

Credit is an enabler for businesses of all sizes. It can open doors to buy inventory at a discount or scale your ad campaigns more effectively. On the flipside, it is often in transparent and extremely inflexible. We know we can do better with our focus on digital entrepreneurs, providing flexible credit products that come with peace of mind built in.

What gets you and your team excited about credit?

The entire team loved seeing cards in the hands of customers! Running a small pilot program, we saw one digital marketer put their entire ad spend on autopilot. Without any declined transactions, they knew our cards had their back all month long while they scaled their Facebook campaigns.

At the same time, we can see that we’re only 10% done! Current offerings in the market often have a fixed credit limit, don’t account for growth and aren’t well integrated into the software stack (incl. accounting, ad networks or online stores).

How does the launch of the Juni cashback card solve these exciting challenges?

The team is working hard to build the Juni card around your business. So you don’t have to build your business around the card. We love to customise and tailor the offer to you.

Specifically, we think limits and payment terms need to be flexible and adapt as your business grows and changes. Black Friday coming up? You may want to have a higher limit than usual. Moving to a new supplier? You’d probably benefit from longer payment terms.

What tailor-made card features are your personal favourite?

I’m really excited that we have fully integrated the cards into the Juni platform. Larger limits for Black Friday work across all your virtual and physical cards, they work across multiple currencies and you can manage user permissions on a very granular level.

In the process, the team behind the cards has learned a lot about the entire Juni platform. With exciting new Juni features and feedback from our customers, I expect us to really innovate on the card this year.

What does the future hold for Juni credit?

We have big plans for the future! Over the coming weeks, we’ll implement many additional features for the Juni card that will further set it apart. Once done, we want to move beyond media spend and build products that are customised for inventory purchase or day-to-day expenses.

Christian Sobkowski is our Credit Director. He joined Juni in October 2021 to lead our lending efforts. Christian has built business lending products across Europe for 5+ years. He holds a degree in General Management from Stockholm School of Economics.
